The 2005 Toyota RAV4 Service and Repair manual shows this exact procedure, however the headlight relay is typically located in one of the following places:
1. Under-Hood Fuse/Relay Box (Primary Location)- Located in the engine bay, driver’s side near the battery.
- Check for a headlight relay or integration relay (some models use an integrated system instead of a separate relay).
- Inside the cabin, under the driver-side dashboard, behind the kick panel or near the steering column.
- Some models don’t use a traditional relay; instead, they have an integration relay module (located behind the dashboard near the driver-side fuse box).
- This module controls multiple electrical functions, including the headlights.
- If the relay isn't found, the issue could be with the headlight switch itself. If the switch is faulty, it may keep the headlights stuck on.
- Listen for Clicking Sounds: When turning the headlights on/off, you should hear a relay click. If you don’t, it may be built into the integration module.
- Test for Power at the Headlight Connector: Unplug one headlight and check for constant power. If power remains even when switched off, it may be a relay or switch issue.
- Temporary Fix: If you need to turn off the headlights immediately, remove the headlight fuse or disconnect the battery.
Since information on the relay’s exact location is limited, I recommend checking the integration relay module behind the dash if a separate relay isn’t found in the fuse box.
